Students K-5 in East Detroit Public Schools participate in Marine Corps Youth Fitness Test. It is a battery of five tests that students may score up to 100 points on each test for a total of 500 points for a composite score. It is very rare that a students scores a perfect 500 points on this test. In fact, a passing score is 250 points. Scoring 50% on this test is a passing score! What other test can be as demanding to reach a passing score of 50%? This should be an indicator on just how challenging this fitness test is for the students!

Push Ups Made Easy!
Improving upper body strength can be a challenge. Push ups are a great exercise to help with that. Set a target goal for daily push ups-- say 30. Then divide that number into as many sets as you would like. I if you can only do 3 good push ups in a row, try 10 sets of 3 push ups to reach your 30 push up goal. Get a lot of rest in between each set. If you like to watch TV, do one set on each commercial break, rest while you watch your show. Maybe video games are what you enjoy, do a set of push ups each time you reach a game level or get out as part of the game. Over time, increase the number of sets, and the number of push ups in each set and you daily goal will increase dramatically.
10 (sets) x 3 (pushups) x 7 (for one week) x 4 (weeks) = 840 push ups (in a month)
Think about it-- 840 push ups in one month all accomplished by doing only 3 at a time.
How many push ups would you do in a day, week, and month if if you did 10 sets of 4 push in each set?
